לשבות בשבת ויום טוב Rest on Sabbath and Festivals

The Fourth of the Ten Commandments is the commandment to rest on the Sabbath and on the first two and last two days of Passover, the two days of Shavuos, the two days of Rosh Hashana (the New Year), Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement) and the first two and last two days of Succot (the Feast of Tabernacles). G-d created the world in 6 days and rested upon the 7th and he commanded us to do so as well. We acknowledge His Being in doing so.

This commandment to “Rest” is one of the most misunderstood. We cease from our preoccupation with and performing any of the mundane activities of our six day work week, and from anything deemed as a creative act. It is a 25 hour period of time from sunset to full night that, if followed correctly, guides us completely into a realm beyond the physical and well into a spiritual state of the deepest reaffirmation of our innermost being, and its exaltation with the reunion of its Creator.
